Department of Physics
Established in 1995, the Department of Physics has been a cornerstone of the college, dedicated to excellence in education and student development. The department offers a BSc Physics Honours program and a set of minor courses, ensuring a comprehensive education. In 2002, the MSc Physics program was introduced in a self-financing stream. The department features well-equipped laboratories and a computer lab for hands-on learning and exploration of AI and Machine Learning.
Our faculty guide students through areas like Astronomy and Astrophysics, Material Science, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and Machine Learning in physics. Students from other institutions and WMO College join research projects, fostering a collaborative environment.
To enhance the educational experience, the department hosts seminars and invited lectures on emerging topics. Scientific awareness programs, such as star-watching events and science exhibitions, are organized for both students and the public. BSc Physics Honours
Physics covers everything from subatomic particles to galaxy dynamics. Our undergraduate programs cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the universe's principles, preparing students for opportunities in academia, research institutions, government agencies, and the private sector.
Bachelor of Science in Physics (BSc - three years): Build a strong foundation in physics. Explore mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, astronomy, mathematical physics, electronics, thermodynamics, optics, spectroscopy, and computational physics. Hands-on labs and experiments enhance understanding and analytical skills.
Bachelor of Science (Honours - four years) in Physics: For those passionate about physics and eager to delve into specialized areas. Engage in advanced coursework, independent research projects, and collaborate with esteemed faculty members for a deeper, enriched academic experience.
Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates who have passed (eligible for Higher Studies) the HSE of the Kerala State Board of Higher Secondary Examination or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto science subjects are eligible for admission.
Calculation of Index Mark:
Total marks in part III + marks for Physics + Bonus marks, if any.
